Nano brows are a permanent makeup technique that uses a digital machine and an ultra-fine needle to create delicate, hair-like pigment strokes through the brows. They can add shape and the appearance of fullness while keeping a soft, natural finish. Results vary with skin type, lifestyle, pigment and aftercare.
How do nano brows work?
When clients ask me what nano brows are, I explain that they are individual pigment strokes designed to resemble brow hairs. I use a digital permanent makeup machine with a very fine needle to place cosmetic pigment into the skin with controlled, consistent movements.
The strokes are mapped to follow your natural brow direction, face shape and existing hair pattern. This lets me rebuild sparse areas, improve definition and create a more balanced shape without making every brow look identical.
Nano brows are not the same as drawing your brows on with a pencil, and they are not the same technique as microblading. The finished result is intended to look like softly placed hair strokes rather than a solid block of color (en-US spelling; also change "coloring" to "coloring" and "color" elsewhere in the body and FAQs). I also use numbing anesthetic (en-US spelling) during the treatment to help keep you comfortable.

Who can benefit from nano brows?
Nano brows may suit you if your natural brows are thin, uneven, patchy or difficult to shape each morning. They can also help create the appearance of fuller brows when hair growth is limited. The aim is not to make your brows look artificial. It is to give you a structure that works with your features and reduces the amount of daily brow makeup you need.
During a consultation, I assess your skin type, natural brow pattern, existing pigment, facial proportions and the result you want. I also discuss whether you prefer very subtle hairstrokes or a more defined brow. Your expectations matter because a technique can be appropriate in principle but still not be the right choice for the finish you want.
Very oily skin can cause pigment to fade more quickly, often closer to the shorter end of the usual lifespan. Nano brows can still be suitable for some clients with oily skin, although the healed strokes may soften and a slightly more powdered effect may be considered. Drier skin often holds the pigment for longer.
You should tell me about allergies, medications, previous brow tattooing, skin conditions and any relevant medical history before treatment. This helps me assess whether the procedure is appropriate and how your skin may heal. A consultation is also the right time to discuss contraindications and any existing pigment that may affect the shape or color.

What should I expect during the appointment?
I begin by discussing your goals and examining your natural brows. I then map the shape so we can review the proposed outline before pigment is implanted. This is an important part of the process. I want you to understand the planned proportions, arch and overall expression before we proceed.
Pigment is selected with your natural coloring and desired result in mind. I work carefully through the brow area, creating fine strokes rather than rushing to fill the whole shape. Numbing anaesthetic is used, and I can explain what you may feel as we go.
Fresh nano brows usually look darker, sharper and more defined than the healed result. That does not mean the final color will remain that strong. Between approximately days seven and fourteen, pigment can appear lighter as the skin heals and the color settles. This temporary change is normal.
The follow-up appointment is an essential second part of the process, not an optional extra. Once the skin has healed, I can see how evenly the pigment was retained and refine areas that need more definition. I will explain the appropriate timing for your follow-up during your appointment.

How long do nano brows last?
Nano brows typically last between one and three years for most clients. That is an estimate, not a guarantee. Oily skin is one of the biggest factors that can shorten longevity, while drier skin may retain the pigment for two to three years or longer.
Your skincare routine and lifestyle also matter. Sun exposure without protection can accelerate fading. Retinol products, exfoliating acids and some medications may also affect how quickly the pigment softens. Once the brow area is fully healed, applying SPF around the brows each day can help extend the result.
As nano brows fade, the strokes normally become lighter and softer rather than suddenly disappearing. When you notice that the shape is no longer as defined as you would like, a color refresh may be appropriate. I assess the existing pigment before recommending further work, because adding new pigment is not always the right answer if old color has changed significantly.

What aftercare do nano brows need?
Good aftercare gives the skin the best opportunity to heal evenly. I provide instructions specific to your treatment, but you should generally avoid picking, scratching or rubbing the area while it heals. Keep products that have not been approved for the healing stage away from the brows.
Do not judge the final result during the first few days. The brows may look strong at first, then appear lighter, patchier or less defined before the color settles. This is part of the normal healing process, and the follow-up is when we assess the result properly.
Once fully healed, protect the area from regular unprotected sun exposure and be mindful of skincare products used around the brows. If you develop an unexpected reaction or have concerns during healing, contact me promptly rather than trying to correct the area yourself.

Frequently asked questions
Are nano brows permanent?
Nano brows are considered permanent makeup because pigment is implanted into the skin, but the appearance is not unchanged forever. Color gradually softens and fades as the skin renews itself. Many clients choose a refresh when definition reduces. The timing depends on skin type, sun exposure, skincare, medications and individual pigment retention.
Do nano brows look natural on sparse brows?
They can look natural on sparse brows when the shape, stroke direction, color and density are designed around your existing features. I do not use one template for every face. During consultation, I assess how much natural hair remains and whether individual strokes can create the subtle fullness you want.
Can I have nano brows over old brow tattooing?
Possibly, but it depends on the color, depth, shape and amount of existing pigment. Old work may affect the design and how new pigment heals. I assess previous cosmetic tattooing during consultation and explain whether a correction, removal process or different brow technique would be more appropriate.
What is the difference between nano brows and microblading?
Nano brows use a digital machine and fine needle to create controlled hairstrokes. Microblading uses a manual blade rather than a digital machine. Because the methods create different levels of skin trauma and pigment placement, they can heal and fade differently, especially on oily or combination skin.
Can I wear makeup after nano brows?
You should follow the specific aftercare guidance I give you, including when it is safe to apply makeup near the treated area. The skin needs time to heal, and putting unsuitable products over fresh pigment can cause irritation or interfere with healing. The safe timing varies with your skin and treatment response.
Are nano brows suitable for mature skin?
Mature skin can be suitable for nano brows, but the approach needs to account for skin texture, elasticity, existing brow hair and healing behavior. I assess these factors rather than relying on age alone. I will also set realistic expectations about how crisp individual strokes can remain over time.
What happens if I change my mind about nano brows?
Because nano brows are permanent makeup, you should treat the decision carefully and review healed examples before booking. Fading is gradual, not immediate. Correction or removal needs separate assessment, so it is not a reason to skip a thorough consultation.
